Remedial massage therapy is a great way to maintain your body and help with underlying causes of musculoskeletal dysfunction.
Remedial massage is a manual hands on treatment using a variety of therapeutic techniques to locate and repair damaged tissue in your body.
The pressure applied with these techniques will create a relaxation response in the muscles, timulate blood supply allowing more nutrients to the area and allow increased joint movement
Treatment pressure will vary from firm to soft depending on the technique, desired outcome and tolerance.
For example a sports player may require deep tissue massage and trigger point therapy techniques which apply a firm pressure to the muscle to break adhesions from repetitive loading.
However if the problem is injury related with swelling involved, lymphatic drainage, a very soft technique used to stimulate fluid movement close to the skin will be used to help speed up their recovery and relieve the pain in the area.
In regards to tolerance, the pressure applied needs to be tolerable so you do not tense up during treatment. This ensures your therapist is not doing more damage to your tissue while treating your condition.
The tolerance level is rated out of 10 and should sit around 7-8/10 in your pain threshold.
Before and after each treatment I will assess your needs and in line with your goals from the session.
Each treatment is unique to the individual and a plan forward is created inclusive of your lifestyle, abilities, needs and wants.
On your initial treatment we will determine if Remedial Therapy or Myotherapy will be right for you.
For general body maintenance you may request a full body remedial massage.
You can ask for specific areas to be covered if they are particularly bothering you, for example feet or hands.
Remedial massage during pregnancy can be really beneficial in relieving the complaints and symptoms you are experiencing.
There are a number of physical changes that the body will be developing during pregnancy.
Massage will help expectant mothers to relieve pain and discomfort from mobile joints and increased pressure on their pelvis, hips, back and feet as well as other areas that become uncomfortable as these changes occur.
